The 69th Annual FABA Annual Conference and Trade Show took place at the Wyndham Grand Orlando Resort Bonnet Creek on June 8th and 9th, 2015. The 2015 show was a huge success, with a 50-percent increase in attendance over the 2014 conference.

Famed Florida aviator Kermit Weeks kicked off the event with a lively presentation about his history in aviation and future plans for Fantasy of Flight. The Industry Panel led by Jeff Kohlman of Aviation Management Consulting Group, gave attendees the most up-to-date industry updates from NBAA, AOPA and FAC panelists. Jed Wolcott, CPA of Wolcott & Associates shed some light on some of Florida’s unique tax laws and used thought provoking examples of the implementation of these laws. The afternoon Legal Panel moderated by Daniel DeSouza of DeSouza Law was a hit with topics such as current lien laws and how to avoid litigation. But perhaps the most anticipated FABA session ever came at the end of the day with faculty from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University hosting a session on UAS, complete with an indoor flying demonstration.

The 2015 conference marked a first for FABA. Members were given the opportunity to donate to a fund sponsoring the attendance of ten Embry-Riddle students at our conference. These students showed up in a big way! They attended every event and participated with networking and session questions. Many of the students even joined FABA taking advantage of our $25 Student Membership rate. The student outreach added an exciting element to FABA’s annual conference and will be repeated with future events.

“ If you were not among the participants of the 2015 conference, please save the dates for our next show on June 13-14, 2016. ”

Lastly, the annual conference signified the changing of the guards for FABA. President Deric Dymerski of Atlas Aviation officially handed the reigns of the association to his Vice President, Mike French, with Signature Flight Support. As Mike assumed the role of President, Richard L. Richards of Richards Goldstein LLP, stepped in as the new FABA Vice President. Dick Woodall of Beacon Aviation Insurance is now officially keeping the checkbook as the new FABA Treasurer. Along with these changes, the FABA Membership voted at our annual business meeting to approve the proposed changes to the FABA Bylaws.

FABA is grateful for the support of our conference sponsors, exhibitors, speakers and attendees! If you were not among the participants of the 2015 conference, please save the dates for our next show on June 13-14, 2016.
