This is the attitude of many marketing professionals who have experienced and realized the tremendous value proposition and return on investment of aerial advertising. The exotic and sexy nature of aviation allows companies to place their products in a very different light than traditional, or even more modern digital and internet-based, advertising mediums.


Aerial advertising has been a part of general aviation for decades, dating back to the 1920s. There are various forms of aerial advertising, from sky writing to branded airships, and, of course, the most common and highly utilized—aerial banners. There are two forms of banners that can be flown: letter banners comprised of seven-foot letters attached together so that messages can be changed at a moment’s notice, and large, 45- by 120-foot billboards in full color. Both mediums are able to target areas in a unique way, with little to no competition for advertising space.


Communities and airports throughout the U.S. realize that aerial banners play a large role in the success of their local businesses and economies through job creation, business, and fuel taxes, and are a unique marketing platform that can attract people from surrounding communities to local businesses. Like da Vinci, companies engaged in aerial advertising across the U.S. look to the sky and have a unique understanding of aviation’s positive impact on the success of their businesses.
